General Data Protection Regulation
GDPR is the General Data Protection Regulation. It aims to provide EU citizens with a unified and harmonized approach to privacy in the European Union. It seeks to strengthen citizens' rights to the protection of their data, as set out in Article 8 of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. It is designed to allow individuals to have more control over their personal data and imposes new obligations on collecting organizations , manage or analyze such data.
After nearly four years of debate the EU Parliament has decided to replace Directive (EU) 95/46 and to create a new privacy framework in the form of a Regulation. Thus, the EU Parliament on 14 April 2016 adopted the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), but its mandatory date was set on 25 May 2018.
